SUMMARY STATEMENT:

  • The Electronics Technician Sonar performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on AN/SQS-56 Sonar and associated equipment.


  • Compiles all related maintenance form logs and records.

  • The incumbent should be able to impart to RSNF designated personnel the unique characteristics of the position.

EDUCATION:

High School (secondary school) graduate and completion of appropriate military or industrial training for the maintenance and repair of Electronics equipment including specific courses of instruction on the maintenance and repair of the AN/SQS-56 Sonar. Certificates required.

EXPERIENCE:

Six (6) years experience as an Electronics Technician in the operation, maintenance, test, and repair of position related equipment.
Maintenance experience shall also include two (2) years on the AN/SQS-56 Sonar and associated equipment. Underwater Battery Fire Control System (UBFCS) experience is desired. Experience may be military or industrial.
Must have in-depth experience with test equipment and fault isolation procedures including prints and flow diagrams. Experience may be military or industrial.

PHYSICAL AND/OR OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

Prior to occupancy of this billet, the incumbent must have passes a complete physical and dental examination. Must be able to work in severe environmental conditions. Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 60% - Troubleshoot, performs shipboard repairs and test of AN/SQS-56 Sonar and associated equipment.

  • 20% - Removes overhauls, installs and tests AN/SQS-56 Sonar and associated equipment.

  • 10% - Performs Planned Maintenance as scheduled.

  • 5% - Prepares maintenance records and reports.

  • 5% - Provides technical assistance in areas involving the integration of Combat Systems.

Performs other duties as assigned.
The RSNF may designate this billet as a training billet. The incumbent will be required to impart his knowledge of duties and responsibilities in such a manner as to permit assimilation on the part of RSNF trainee.
