SUMMARY
STATEMENT:
The Principal
Electrical/Mine Warfare Engineer provides design and technical guidance in
the planning and implementation of repair modification and maintenance of
ships and support facilities. Provides engineering liaison with waterfront
production effort, participates in engineering studies as assigned, assist
in the preparation, conduct, and evaluation of inspections, tests and trials
with ship electrical and mine warfare systems. Provides design, technical
guidance, and analysis of ship degaussing systems and ship mine warfare
equipment. Conducts degaussing ranging and calibration, low magnetic
surveys, and test ship mine warfare equipment. The incumbent may be
required to assume the duties of the Engineering Division Superintendent in
his absence. The incumbent shall be able to impart to RSNF designated
personnel the unique characteristics of the position.
EDUCATION:
A Bachelor of Science in an Electrical Engineering Degree is required.
A Master of Science in Electrical Engineering is desired.
EXPERIENCE:
Eight (8) years experience in electrical design and engineering positions of increasing responsibility. At least six (6) years should have been in marine design, shipbuilding, and ship repair industry. Experience in the operation, repair, and analysis of the following systems is required: 60/400 Hz Power Generation and Distribution, Sonar Systems, Mine Warfare Systems (mine tracking, VEMS), degaussing range operations and analysis. Proficiency in the use of personal computers and commercial wok processing software is mandatory.
PHYSICAL AND/OR OTHER SPECIFIC
REQUIREMENTS:
Prior to occupancy of this billet, the candidate must have passed a complete physical and dental examination. He must be able to work in severe environmental conditions. He must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English with considerable experience in Engineering Report/correspondence development and implementation. The ability to read, speak and write Arabic is desirable.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
40% -Provides design and technical guidance and assistance in the planning, repair, modification, and overhaul of ship and facility electrical equipment.

20% -Performs inspection, testing and evaluation services on all electrical systems, power plant and industrial equipment, including sonar systems, ship generation, ship mine warfare equipment, ship degaussing systems.

20% -Analyzes performance of ship mine warfare equipment, degaussing system, degaussing and acoustic range facilities and provides recommendations as required.

20% -Conducts engineering studies of electrical plans and systems including design proposals and existing operating problems. Develops methods and procedures for the improved operation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems.
Performs other
duties as assigned.
The RSNF may designate this billet as a training billet. The incumbent will be required to impart his knowledge of duties and responsibilities in such a manner as to permit assimilation on the part of the RSNF trainee.
